Scamming and spamming aren't new, however Facebook now offers a whole new opportunity for hackers and scammers to use you to make money off you and you friends without you even suspecting. Hidden in simple posts from someone you trust is the trojan hijacker!
Are you protected? Do you know what to look for?
It's Simple to protect against and the best protection is knowing what to look for. Recently a fellow IMer fell foul to this creative hijacking of a FaceBook account… I must stress that it's not a hacking (brute force breaking in) this hijack needs your assistance to allow it to happen.
The blackhat marketers ask you for your login details and you happily give them!
Here is how it works….
- You see a post on FB asking you to go to a link to do something with facebook, in this case a brand new FB email account… See Pics
- When you click on link it goes to a FB lookalike page asking you to enter your login to validate (See Pics) – only its not FaceBook and you have given you login detials away to the hijacker.
- They then login as you with the same link to get all your friends to give over their login details to perpetuate the hijacking.
- Seperately they then login as you and make posts as you to which all your friends click on and it takes then to another site where your visit or purchase makes the hijacker money.
It takes a bit of setting up but it's very profitable for the hijacker. You help them along the way.
How to Fix it.
- Change your password – to something completely different. They then can't pretend to be you.
- Change all your logins that would use the same password because they now know enough about you to find other things they can get into, websites, email accounts etc etc.
